Nowadays, biotechnology plays an undeniable role in solving agricultural problems, contributing to food safety and promoting public health. In this regard, ACECR established Research Institute for Industrial Biotechnology (RIIB) in the Northeastern Iran in Khorasan Razavi Province (Mashhad city) in September 2013 with the mission of conducting coherent and purposeful research for technology development and commercialization of knowledge-based products tailored to the current needs of the society.

The main aims of this institute include producing knowledge-based bio-compounds, providing single cell protein, creating and the utilizing the country’s local germplasm, creating added value in agricultural wastes with the help of biotechnology, doing research in the field of genetic breeding and improving quantitative and qualitative traits in mushrooms, algae, bacteria and horticultural plants, and offering specialized services (including fresh products and consulting services).

This research institute consists of the following three research groups: Industrial Fungi Biotechnology, Industrial Biotechnology on Microorganisms, and horticultural Plants biotechnology. One of the distinctive features of RIIB is doing applied research leading to commercialization of knowledge-based products.

Faculty:

Research faculty includes eleven full-time members with a variety of specialties including plant biotechnology, agricultural biotechnology, plant physiology, horticulture, microbial biotechnology, chemistry, food science, and Plant pathology. Almost all of the faculty members have completed all or part of their doctoral studies in advanced countries such as Australia, South Korea, Japan, Spain, and Germany. Moreover, faculty members and experts from universities and research centers outside RIIB collaborate with RIIB in the form of scientific councils or research projects.
